ROMAN ROAD RALLY
What is the Roman Road Rally?
The Roman Road
Rally is a reinforcement tool designed to coordinate with this lesson's
memory scripture, The Roman Road: The children participate by moving a race
piece along a race course within their own groups and win prizes.
What is its purpose?
Its purpose is
to reward the children for performing certain tasks which will help them
spiritually mature both as individuals and as a group.
When do I use the Roman Road Rally?
The Roman Road Rally is only used during the Second Week Follow-up.
This allows you to control the rewards and requirements and keep them
age appropriate.
What materials do I need to prepare?
Each group has
its own Race Course. See the Odyssey Artwork. Make a copy of each onto a
large butcher paper. Also make copies of the individual race pieces for
each child. These are moved along the course throughout the year for
rewards. The courses are divided as follows: K-2nd Grades –
(Mavericks) Horse Race Course; 3rd-4th Grades –
(Skaters) Skateboard Course; 5th-6th Grades –
(Shredders) Ski Race Course.
What sorts of rewards do I put on each Road Race?
During
September Follow-up make time for the groups each to decorate their own
racecourses and race pieces. Discuss when and what their rewards should
be as a group. Some examples might include: Pizza night, movie night,
popcorn night, game night, etc. Try to plan them to take place outside
of Odyssey. Enlist parents to help and keep the cost down!
